Dear Friends In last week’s State of the Union speech to Congress, President Obama stressed the importance of fiscal responsibility, job creation and bipartisanship. Unfortunately, in his first year as president, he failed to provide any of those things to the American public. Since his speech, President Obama unveiled a $3.8 trillion budget that would raise our taxes by almost $1 trillion. Americans are dealing with 10 percent unemployment. The President and Washington Democrats are still pushing their divisive health care reform policies without acknowledging Republican alternatives. President Obama’s brand of “change” is empty rhetoric and job-killing, tax-and-spend policy. Last night, the Georgia Democratic candidates for Governor debated in Athens. Most of the debate focused on changes to funding for education. But despite decreases in state revenue, Georgia Republicans have increased education spending per pupil by 10 percent compared to per pupil spending by former Governor Roy Barnes. After the debate, Roy Barnes said he knows what it’s like to make the tough decisions as Governor. His decisions were tough because Georgians did not approve of them. Georgia voters fired Roy Barnes in 2002 for being a heavy-handed and out-of-touch Governor. Roy Barnes and Georgia Democrats have not changed. Why go back? Georgia has benefitted from Republican leadership, and, with your help, we'll maintain solid conservative leadership in 2010. Sincerely,
